Mayesbrook Park School
Details about The Shannon Trust Reading Programme at Mayesbrook Park School
Mayesbrook Park School in Barking & Dagenham is a Pupil Referral Unit with a high percentage of pupils receiving Free School Meals – 36.5%. This means that this project will be hugely impactful and create positive outcomes for the pupils.
The Shannon Trust Reading Programme aims to address entrenched education inequalities experienced by vulnerable girls in a high poverty borough by improving literacy skills and fostering leadership, confidence and continuity in education. Girls who are significantly overrepresented in vulnerable groups and who face complex barriers to learning and inclusion will benefit from our funding.
Delivery of the Project
“Thanks to Park Charitable Trust we will now be able to provide our students with the opportunity to support their peers in developing their literacy skills, not only within the school but also in the wider community. These opportunities are vital to the progression of our students and ensure that their leadership and mentoring skills are developed before their transition to further education, or re-integration to a mainstream setting. Without the funding from Park Charitable Trust we would not be able to implement the project, and have such a significant impact.”
