Details about James Cambell Primary School and The Brilliant Club project
Based in Barking and Dagenham, the borough is amongst the 10% most deprived boroughs in the country and 93% of children at school are in lower income bands. These factors highlight the urgent need for enrichment opportunities like The Brilliant Club, which can help bridge gaps in cultural capital, boost confidence and academic inspiration – especially among girls and provide vital exposure to university-style learning that many of these pupils may not otherwise access.
Delivery of the Project
We are delighted to announce that the school has made an excellent start on delivery of the project. The Brilliant Club project has been launched and all tutorial dates have been set for the forthcoming terms. A tutor from the Brilliant Club has been assigned to the school, Victoria Onyeagboko – a law specialist. The focus will be in Law with the pupils answering the question ‘What are Rights?’. This is really wonderful for the school as we are a Silver Rights Respecting School and working towards achieving the Gold Award this year, so it aligns very well with this work’ – Clara Breakwell, Head Teacher.
The Trust will be visiting the school and participating in one of the sessions in March 2026 and we look forward to meeting the participants.
A graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Queen Mary University in London in June.
